August 12, 2019 –  Fall admissions window opens for Academies of Loudoun fall 2020 admissions (for AET and AOS programs).  (closes at 12pm on October 25th)  $35 application fee must be paid before application is complete (fee is automatically reduced or waived for free/reduced lunch status). Once payment has been made, please login to the admissions portal and schedule the assessments that are required This link will take you to the Application Portal.

October 25, 2019 - Fall admissions window closes at 12:00 p.m. (noon)

November 2nd or 9th, 2019 – Phase 1 - California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI), STEM Thinking Skills Assessment 

January 11, 2020* - Phase 2 (finalists only) California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST-N), Writing Assessment

March 2020 – Admission offers will be posted in admissions portal

March-May 2020 - Students must accept or decline all admissions offers

Admissions process (highly competitive)

  • Phase 1 (all applicants) - CCTDI (30 min), STEM Thinking Skills Assessment (50 min – new for Fall 2020 Admissions). Applicants must also identify an AET pathway choice.
  • Phase 2 (finalists only) - CCTST-N (50 min), Letters of Recommendation, Writing Assessment (30 min), Academic Record review
  • The admissions panel does not have access to applicant gender, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, special education status, or English learner status at any point during the admissions process.

 Are Accommodations Offered for Testing?  

Only accommodations for standardized assessments that are part of an IEP (Individualized Education Program), Section 504 Plan, or an EL-APP (English Learner Assessment Participation Plan) can be considered.

 Who is selected to attend:

All finalists undergo a comprehensive, multi-tiered evaluation process that assesses their ability to meet the rigors of a demanding, advanced academic curriculum and the potential to be effective contributors to the program’s unique curricular experiences. 

AET Admission Criteria

All applicants:

  • Enrolled in Geometry or above at the time of application
  • California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory scores (CCTDI)
  • STEM Thinking Skills Assessment 

Finalists Only:

  • California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST-N)
  • Letters of Recommendation from eighth grade math and science teachers (automated process through admissions portal for LCPS students)
  • Writing Assessment
  • Final grade of C or above in each course in grades 6 and 7, and C or above in each course for Semester I of grade 8

AOS Admission Criteria

All applicants:

  • Enrolled in Algebra I or above at the time of application
  • California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory scores (CCTDI)
  • STEM Thinking Skills Assessment 

Finalists Only:

  • California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST-N)
  • Letters of Recommendation from eighth grade math and science teachers (automated process through admissions portal for LCPS students)
  • Writing Assessment
  • Final grade of C or above in each course in grades 6 and 7, and C or above in each course for Semester I of grade 8
